Testimonials: What Our Interns are Saying

At Momentum Counseling and Consulting, LLC, we value the feedback and experiences of our interns. Here's what some of them have to say about their time with us:

I selected Momentum Counseling and consulting as my professional choice because I initially harbored uncertainty regarding the specific demographic I wished to serve upon graduation. Momentum affords me the opportunity to discern my specialized field and engage with clients who evoke a profound sense of passion within me, thereby enhancing my capabilities as a counselor. Momentum Counseling and Consulting offers wonderful supervision and steadfast support across all levels of the organization, ensuring I have the assistance l need when it matters most.
Speaking as an intern, Momentum has been a wonderful bridge in between the academic and professional world. On top of learning the practicalities of being in a private practice, my skills as a clinician have grown through an incredible blend of guidance from supervisors and independent study. I love having the opportunity to seek the expertise of about 80 different counselors of varying areas of focus!
I chose Momentum because I could tell from the beginning that the practice was made for me to learn. Being early in my counseling career it was important for me to be at a site that I felt could help foster my growth and allow me opportunities to further my knowledge about the specialties I’m interested in. I have the freedom to choose my own clients while having the colleagues that can support me in new endeavors. The supervision I receive is in-depth enough for me to receive individualized feedback on my specific goals and has grown my confidence in ways I could not have imagined.

About Our Supervision Process

Clinical supervision supports mental health trainees by offering oversight and support from a more experienced provider. At Momentum Counseling and Consulting, our supervision is guided by the following five principles: Safety, Trust, Choice, Collaboration, and Empowerment.

Safety

Consistency, predictability, overview of expectations, structured meetings, being proactive about conflict resolution, normalizing conscious incompetence (we are all learning) and clear and friendly communication.

Trust

Transparency in expectations; invites vulnerability, openness, and truth; signed contracts/job descriptions; review of creative approaches in treatment and directives and crisis situations; normalization of conscious incompetence.

Choice

Supervisees feel in control of development/life by having choice; provide education on level of care for clients; support supervisees in personal development of style while upholding standards; encouraging flexibility/creativity in the room; opportunities to learn and refine treatment planning process.

Collaboration

Encourage involvement in learning the healing journey; rather than TELLING, we explain why and we invite feedback/questions; warm, caring, collaborative, and inquisitive; encourage supervisee involvement and ask questions about how they prefer to receive constructive feedback; request feedback from supervisees re: supervision experience.

Empowerment

Create a learning environment where one feels in control of their life/destiny; noting changes they see in clients; noticing progress and reaching a point where less mistakes are made; assistance in battling imposture syndrome; gentle leadership style (avoid micromanaging); clear communication regarding expectations and autonomy; provide opportunities to develop inner supervisor; provide opportunities to practice skills such as presenting, speaking, and writing; support autonomy and freedom in style.

- Written by MCC clinical director, Kate Newton, LPC, CYT

I hold supervision in an open format that allows discussion around reviewing notes and interventions with clients, building theoretical orientation and skill set along with helping develop students’ professional orientation around the students’ unique professional development. Most common discussions include: case reviews, intervention development, personal professional development as well as preparing students to work in private practice with commercial insurance as well as Medicaid.

- MCC clinical supervisor, Kristin Mannino, LPC, EMDR
