“I have an amazing life, but I’m miserable.”
“I feel isolated and disconnected.”
“This culture is driving me crazy!”
Expat life is rich and challenging. Transitions may help define what’s most important to you, but they can also create stress. A new culture can broaden your mind and provide new perspectives. That said, culture shock is real and creates daily frustration. Trailing spouses in particular, have high rates of depression and anxiety. Parenting abroad brings its own unique challenges.
Expats tend to be highly capable, bright, adventurous individuals who are good at problem solving. Many expats need a little outside consultation and counseling to navigate some of the unique challenges of this life. There are evidence based approaches to help, and there are researched-based protective factors you can create for yourself and your family moving forward.
Here at Momentum, we have clinicians who are expats, who have been expats, and who are trained to work with expats. We get it and we know how to help you feel better and get back to thriving.
