“My feelings control me.”
“I find myself reacting rather than responding to difficult experiences.”
“I struggle with being constantly overwhelmed, uncontrollably angry, or shutting down.”
We are not often directly taught how to identify, accept, or manage our emotions. We learn this by watching how those around us deal with their emotions. Some emotions may be considered “acceptable” to experience, while others may be considered “wrong” or “bad”. While emotions are a normal part of daily life, for some, they feel like a wild roller coaster.
On a daily basis, we use emotional regulation strategies to meet the demands of the different situations we face. Some of those strategies are helpful, and some are not. We want to collaborate with you to help you get off the emotional roller coaster! Learn to break the cycle of reacting instead of responding. We can help you learn to identify your emotions, understand how you uniquely experience them, and skills to process them in a helpful and healthy way.
Our lack of effective emotional regulation skills can affect:
Finances
Job opportunities
Mental and physical health
Relationships
Nutrition
Our ability to live a full and meaningful life.
